The Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (PAMI) research group was established in 1980. The research objectives of the PAMI group are: advance the state-of-the-art in machine intelligence, computer vision, and robotics, develop human resources for high-tech research and development, and promote technology transfer between the university and industry. PAMI has established strong relationships with governmental and industrial partners that fund and support research in the PAMI. For more information, please check the list of funding sources and industrial partners. |

The principle characteristic of Systems Design Engineering is the comprehensive solution of complex problems through the integration of expertise from multiple disciplines. PAMI follows this philosophy by bringing together well established pattern analysis methodologies and the most recent advances in machine intelligence to address the issues of representation, classification, knowledge discovery and automation based on data arising from complex systems. Under this theme, PAMI researchers pursue research in five general areas:
Autonomous Systems
Machine Perception and Sensors
Image Processing and Analysis
Pattern Analysis and Recognition
Knowledge Systems
