A Vibrant Outreach to inspire school children in the hinterland: Prof Raja Kumar was keen and created a strong outreach programme to inspire the school children from the hinterland. Outreach by technology interventions through Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA): The institute adopted 6 villages in which the institute has been trying to make technology interventions to make a difference in the lives of people. Outreach through R &D: IITBBS has a strong outreach through R&D under which the institute helps solving the research problems which are local and national. The institute takes along other institutions in its endeavors. Ex: Design and Innovation Center, IIT Bhubaneswar has been acting as a hub and been mentoring the activities at BOSE -Cuttack, Kv-2 – BBS. , Ravenshaw University, and CET – BBS, Outreach through Continuing Education Programme (CEP) and Training: IITBBS has a strong CEP through which the institution helps the other organization and industry by catering to their continuing education and training needs.
Prof Raja Kumar conceptualized the organization of Open house-cum-grand S&T Fair on the Foundation day of the institute (12th Feb) for the benefit and inspiration of the school children from surrounding areas. This has been made a regular feature with the 1st, 2nd and the 3rd events organized on 12th Feb 2018, 2019 and 2020, respectively. It could not be organized during 2021 and 2022 due to Covid. The event has been publicized to schools, colleges and universities across Odisha and beyond. Schools from far off places too started visiting IITBBS with even an overnight journey by train. The 2020 event featured: 252 Live experiments were displayed 8,500 students, faculty ad visitors visited from outside 167 schools participated The institute always encouraged and permitted visits by student teams from colleges / schools to the institute on other days too.
IIT Bhubaneswar Organised Open Days and Q&A interactive sessions in the month of June during 2017 – 2019. It could not be done during 2020-22 due to Covid. Facility was provided to prospective students and aspirants to participate in the seminar/webinar either in person or through online mode via skype/telephone. few general talks on IIT education, counselling and admission process, a brief introduction to programs of study and campus life at IIT Bhubaneswar. This will be followed by a Question and Answer (Q&A) session, designed to help the students in making a correct and informed choice in their career. Special counselling is planned for prospective female candidates by the women helpdesk team of the Institute.
