Course Content
Basic elements of Automation, Automation and Autonomation, Orders or Levels of Automation. Industrial revolutions and the evolution of automated manufacturing systems. Drives and Actuators and Sensors for automated manufacturing: Pneumatic, Hydraulic and Electrical Actuators, Tactile and Nontactile Sensors. Mechatronics in manufacturing: Concepts of Mechatronics, Control Systems and applications of Microprocessor based and Programmable Logic Controller based systems for automated manufacturing, Microelectromechanical Systems, Computer Controlled Machines, Industrial Robots and their applications in fabrication, machining and assembly systems. Automated Material Handling, Automated Guided Vehicle and Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems in manufacturing. Transfer Systems, Automated Flow Lines and Automated Assembly Systems. Automated Inspection for manufacturing. Automation for integrated manufacturing, Flexible Manufacturing and Assembly Systems and their applications. Modeling, Analysis and Simulation of automated manufacturing systems. Economics and Social Impact of Manufacturing Automation.
