Microcalcification Augmentation in Digital X-ray Mammography
Micro-calcifications are calcium deposits that are small in size, having irregular shapes, and appear compact in nature in regions of the breast on a X-ray mammogram. It is noted that the presence of the microcalcifications of a certain size, shape and spatial distribution is an indication of breast cancer. On a conventional mammogram, there is low contrast difference between the microcalcifications and surroundings, and they appear in different sizes and shapes making manual identification difficult and inaccurate. This method employs fuzzy logic techniques to produce a microcalcification augmented image for assisting in reporting of X-ray mammograms.
